Lunchtime Birds

This whole week, I have found myself consumed by one woman’s Labor of Love. Jodi Barnes was inspired to invite a number of poets on Facebook. She gave them a simple mission: Write 14 word poems about love so that they can be handed out to those less fortunate. You can find the event details here.
Fortunately for me, I was invited early on. At first, I shared a couple thinking I was done. I had no way of knowing then that by the end of the week I would have written 80 of these tiny poems or thoughts.
I can only attribute the outcome to the nurturing environment Jodi created for all of us. I know that I was not alone in discovering great talent and in also forming new connections with people whose very words lit my soul on fire.
One of the most amazing outcomes was the fact that I was able to reconnect with a friend I had gotten out of touch with back in 2005. As the TV ads would say, it was priceless – a reward, a gift, a boon that I had no way of anticipating.
So would I do anything for love? No, not really. I still rely on my gut for that. It gets tricky though. While love maybe pure, passion blinds. And yes, I would call myself a very passionate person. It is ever a struggle to temper that passion to let enough clarity rule the day. The teeter-toter of life in my opinion.
